Day 26 - SouWester Sunset Gin

I am sure you all know this is the last day of Ginvent 2020. We really hope you have enjoyed the daily tipple.

As you may have noticed, some days your narrators have strayed a little from the core subject at hand, the content of your little bottle o'gin. Today I promise to stick to the subject at hand, but first need to share one little snippet re Boxing Day, it is originally a day to give gifts to the poor and it has become our day to either head into shopping madness or watch the test match. One feels Boxing Day may have drifted a little from the original intent, oh well. Much like these updates I guess, so back to the point.

Today's gin is from a tiny boutique producer in the Margaret River region, SouWester Spirits.

For your Boxing Day pleasure we have selected the Sunset Gin, barrel aged with Christmas Tree, Geraldton Wax and Red Samphire. Only 350 bottles were made of this little number.

Lets have a look at these ingredients, starting with the Christmas Tree, the Nuytsia, which is a species estimated to be 40 million years old. Fascinatingly to me it is also the worlds tallest parasitic tree, which means it taps into the root systems of plants around it to survive, drawing on others success for its own. I would like to offer some mean jabs connected to this interesting fact, but no I will leave it alone, stick to relevant facts...  Flavour wise expect honeysuckle. Next the Geraldton Wax, we have seen this before with the Bombak Flora - flavours of lemongrass and citrus. Lastly the Red Samphire which delivers a salty note (more opportunities gone begging). All wrapped up in Chardonnay Barrels for the flavours to develop.

We hope you enjoy this last taste of Ginvent 2020, neat over ice or with a light tonic mixer. Garnish with orange or dehydrated grapefruit.

Thanks for coming along for the ride.

Jamin & Ryan.
