Day 10 - Hippocampus Barrel Aged Gin

Hello, old friend. This is a blast from the past. An old haunt of mine, perfect little spot for a Friday afternoon tipple, off the main drag making cracking gins, but then it all was taken away and converted into a cafe space.....

The distillery is Hippocampus and the gin is their Barrel Aged Gin. This gin is aged in Margaret River Chardonnay barrels. Hippocampus was set up by the team behind Little Creatures and Gordon Street Garage, they also own Stormflower winery, so every chance it is those barrels this gin was embraced by. Unfortunately Perth was not big enough and they moved the whole Hippocampus operation east in 2017. I am pleased to note that it moved to my favourite Australian Brewer, Boatrocker  - making some of the finest sour beers in the land - so it is in good hands.

This little number was one of the last batch of this gin made in Perth, and is out of production and will never be the same again. In many ways this will be like consuming the last of a species, somber and thrilling all at the same time.

Take your time to enjoy, savour the lemon notes that can be found in this special last of its kind gin.

Drink with a dash of soda water over ice.
